Writing and creative work
A character creation workflow that produces usable detail
Useful character notes explain what a person wants, what blocks them, and what they do under pressure.
A clear sequence
- Write the character’s immediate goal in the opening situation.
- Name the belief or fear that complicates that goal.
- Choose one contradiction that creates tension.
- Give the character a visible action instead of only a trait.
- Test the notes in a short scene before expanding the profile.
A small set of decisions is easier to write from than a long list of disconnected facts.
